Coffee Art and Branding
James Billiter is a designer and artist specializing in illustration and custom typography. One of his passions is coffee and has spent much of his career creating coffee artwork — from personal artwork to craft brewers to some of the largest coffee brands.
Folgers Coffee Heritage
Created mural, poster, typography and packaging design celebrating Folger’s heritage, connecting a new generation of customers to one of America’s long-lasting and premier coffee brands. The mural for New Orleans coffee plant is along interstate I-10, celebrating Folgers connection to the port of NOLA and as a proud local employer since 1960.

Pneuma Coffee Packaging and Brand Evolution Concept
Initial sketch concepts were hand-drawn to focus on concept of pack over executional details. Once a pack concept was established I lead a labeling and messaging exercise with the client to efficiently align to a communication strategy on each panel.
I focused on emphasizing the flag motif and evolving the Pneuma brand name story for the packaging update. I developed the concept of “Tradewinds” as link to the Pneuma name to the brands tagline of “Breathing Life into Communities Near and Far” and as a means of celebrating direct-relationship coffee with farmers. An illustration style was created using the curve from the Pneuma flag.
