Billy Yanks Restaurant
Billy Yanks Restaurant and Bourbon Bar in Hamilton, Ohio’s historic Hammerle Building celebrates the city’s most notable landmark and its statue: the Billy Yank soldier a top the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building.
Identity Development
Explored a series of logo typography as well as containing shapes inspired by a Bourbon and 1800s inspired moodboard collaboration with the client.
Identity Guidelines
After developing the brand around the name of a local landmark and legend I created a signature visual of the landmark interacting with a bourbon barrel as a twist that would delight patrons. I created guidelines around usage of these key ingredients: Logo as emblem featuring signature visual/icon with logotype and identifiers, logo type, monogram, icon, tagline as well as support color palette and illustration toolbox. Shared usage examples of using ingredients in marketing and collateral.
Pattern Development
I developed an initial round of patten repeat, motif and theme exploration inspired by mood boards; this exploration included diamonds and icons, Damask-style ogees and Toile de Joueys featuring local culture. We chose a diamond repeat with monogram and landmark silhouette as the final for it’s combination of historic yet modern aesthetic.
Interior Design and Space Branding Artwork
Created a 8 foot wide mural in the dining room accompanied by two framed art prints (see below). Lasercut wood low-relief elements were used to create interest in the bar areas.

Branded Artwork
We developed two printed pieces for use in the space; limited-edition prints were also a gift to project backers and merchandise for sale. The first print assembled the logo, logotype, tagline, statue and building illustration into a marketing print. A second print celebrated the namesake landmark for display in the restaurant dining room.
