In 2019 I developed this image inspired by my favorite places in Red River Gorge, Kentucky: Natural Bridge, Courthouse Rock, Double Arch and Chimney Rock. I began carving the woodblock during stays in the Gorge and finished my carving over 4 trips in the course of 9 months.
After completing the initial woodcut I used a lasercutter to create a series of shapes I can ink and assemble like a puzzle to create the color plate. After laser cutting the intricate shapes I also hand carved details into this plate.
Each print is unique and one-of-a-kind, they are hand-printed and hand-inked on a small etching press with ink brayers.
