In October of 2007 Bridget and I got married in the Yosemite chapel and the Valley has held a mythical status in my heart since then.
Two woodcuts were hand-carved out of cherry plywood blocks. The image is inspired by William Setzer Rice’s 1921 “HalfDome at Night” but I chose to focus on the face of Half Dome, and dramatically pair the rock face with the image of a full moon rising behind the mountain — a subtle reference to the work of Ansel Adams. I wanted a the first woodcut to create the night tone, and the second to define the scene.
The typography is hand-typeset vintage wood type that I’ve been collecting. Each print is unique as it is hand-inked and hand-registered on a Challenge Proof Press by the artist.
